The NFC keychains gave Rent-A-Drum a corporate gift that served both a physical and digital purpose. Recipients received a branded keepsake while gaining convenient access to the content connected to each NFC tag.

Miniature Skip Containers - Custom Gifts for Mining Stakeholders

Client: Rent-A-Drum
Industry: Corporate gifts
Service: Custom Product Design • CAD Modelling • Additive Manufacturing • Branding • Medium-Batch Production

Project Overview

Rent-A-Drum wanted to present specialised gifts to stakeholders attending the Mining Expo. The products needed to be more relevant to the company’s operations than conventional promotional merchandise.

Printhoek3D developed a miniature skip container based on the equipment associated with Rent-A-Drum’s refuse-removal services. The geometry, colours and branding were incorporated into a compact physical model that remained immediately recognisable as a Rent-A-Drum product.

The model was developed as a custom digital asset for the client. This allows Rent-A-Drum to request additional units for future events without repeating the complete design process.

Producing customised products through conventional manufacturing would normally involve tooling and setup costs that are difficult to justify for limited quantities. Additive manufacturing allowed the skip containers to be produced cost-effectively at a medium volume, while retaining the client-specific branding and colour scheme.

Highlights

  • Custom miniature skip container based on Rent-A-Drum’s service offering
  • Developed as a specialised gift for Mining Expo stakeholders
  • Client branding and corporate colours integrated into the product
  • Reusable digital design asset retained for future production
  • Manufactured in practical quantities without conventional tooling
  • Consistent appearance maintained across the production batch

Impact

The project provided Rent-A-Drum with a distinctive corporate gift that directly represented its refuse-removal services. The digital design can be reproduced for future events, allowing additional batches to be manufactured without restarting development.

Miniature Skip Truck - Custom Stakeholder Gifts

Client: Rent-A-Drum
Industry: Waste Management & Mining Services
Service: Custom Product Design • Additive Manufacturing • Branding • Medium-Batch Production

Project Overview

Rent-A-Drum required specialised gifts for stakeholders attending the Mining Expo. Rather than using conventional promotional merchandise, the company wanted the gifts to represent its refuse-removal services and equipment.

Printhoek3D developed a custom miniature skip truck featuring Rent-A-Drum’s branding. The model incorporates the truck cab, wheels, skip-loading structure and removable-waste-container geometry as a detailed, recognisable representation of the company’s operations.

The truck was designed as a digital asset specifically for Rent-A-Drum. This means the design can be manufactured again for future events or stakeholder requirements without restarting the development process.

Traditional manufacturing could produce a similar item, but tooling and setup costs would be difficult to justify at the required quantities. Additive manufacturing made customised medium-volume production commercially practical while allowing the branding, colours and equipment details to remain specific to the client.

The miniature skip truck forms part of a wider collection of branded Rent-A-Drum products, including wheelie bins and additional models currently under development.

Highlights

  • Purpose-built corporate gift representing Rent-A-Drum’s refuse-removal services
  • Custom digital design retained for repeat and future production
  • Detailed miniature assembly incorporating the cab, wheels, skip and lifting structure
  • Client-specific branding and colours integrated into the finished model
  • Medium-volume manufacturing without conventional tooling costs
  • Developed for presentation to mining-sector stakeholders

Impact

The project gave Rent-A-Drum a distinctive stakeholder gift directly connected to its services and recent expansion into the mining industry. Additive manufacturing enabled the company to commission customised branded products in practical quantities while retaining the digital assets for future production.

Miniature Wheelie Bins - Branded Stakeholder Gifts

Client: Rent-A-Drum Namibia
Industry: Corporate
Service: Custom Product Design • CAD Modelling • Additive Manufacturing • Branding • Medium-Batch Production

Project Overview

Rent-A-Drum required distinctive gifts for stakeholders attending the Mining Expo. The gifts needed to reflect the company’s services instead of relying on generic promotional products.

Printhoek3D developed a miniature wheelie bin incorporating Rent-A-Drum’s branding and corporate colours. The product was designed as a recognisable display miniature rather than a functional waste container.

The geometry was created as a reusable digital asset specifically for Rent-A-Drum. This allows the company to request additional quantities or colour variations for future events without repeating the full development process.

Traditional manufacturing would require tooling and setup costs that are difficult to justify for customised medium quantities. Additive manufacturing made it practical to produce the miniature bins cost-effectively while maintaining consistent branding and appearance across the batch.

These wheelie bins do not include NFC tags and are separate from the earlier Rent-A-Drum NFC keychain project.

Highlights

  • Custom miniature wheelie-bin design
  • Created as a specialised corporate and stakeholder gift
  • Rent-A-Drum branding incorporated into the product
  • Corporate colour variations available
  • Reusable CAD files retained for future production
  • Medium-volume production without conventional tooling
  • Separate from the NFC-enabled keychain project

Impact

Rent-A-Drum received a customised corporate gift directly connected to its waste-management services. The reusable digital design makes future production and colour variations possible without restarting the project.

Brake Light Lens - From Obsolete Part to Functional Replacement

Client: Private Client
Industry: Automotive
Service: Reverse Engineering • CAD Reconstruction • Additive Manufacturing • Prototype Manufacturing • Functional Testing

Project Overview

Printhoek 3D was commissioned to recreate an obsolete brake light lens after the original replacement part was no longer readily available.

The project required more than copying the visible outer shape. The lens had to fit into the existing light housing, align with the original mounting points, hold the internal components correctly, and allow light to distribute as intended when powered.

PH3D rebuilt the lens geometry in CAD, preserving the critical features that controlled fit and function. This included the outer shell, internal diffuser geometry, clip positions, mounting clearances, and engagement points.

The replacement was manufactured as separate sections so each feature could perform its role correctly. The parts were printed, test-fitted, adjusted, and checked under power to confirm fit, alignment, and light performance.

  • Replacement designed for function, not only appearance

Impact

This project shows that reverse engineering an automotive light component is not only about reproducing the shape.

By preserving the mounting geometry, internal diffuser features, and light performance requirements, Printhoek 3D produced a functional replacement lens that allowed the original brake light assembly to remain in use.

Indicator Lens Assembly - Reverse Engineered Two-Part Replacement

Client: Private Client
Industry: Automotive
Service: 3D Scanning • Reverse Engineering • CAD Reconstruction • Additive Manufacturing

Project Overview

Printhoek 3D was commissioned to recreate an automotive indicator lens assembly after the original replacement part was no longer readily available.
