Your trophy stays.
The data travels.
3D scanning and replica production in Namibia. Printable files for manufacture closer to home, or replicas produced by PH3D.
What we do
Scan, reconstruct, produce.
A replica that matches your trophy starts with the original. A generic model cannot reproduce the individual shape of a horn, the proportions of a skull, or the fit of a tooth in its socket.
We capture the original in 3D, clean and reconstruct the geometry for printing, and resolve the fine details: tusk sockets, tooth pockets, mating surfaces. Where the original needs to stay in Namibia, we can arrange scanning at our workshop or with the outfitter or taxidermist.
From there you choose the delivery. We hand over the agreed printable files for manufacture closer to home, or we produce the replica ourselves in Namibia. Printing, assembly, finishing and delivery are quoted according to the project.
From original trophy to replica.
Completed client projects and scale trials. Each entry shows what the client needed, the technical challenge, and what we delivered.
Elephant skull & tusks
Delivered: A combined digital model of skull and tusks, with reconstructed tusk sockets, supplied for manufacture in Australia.
Two elephant skulls were hunted in Namibia. The taxidermist held the tusks, so the skulls were scanned at our workshop and the tusks were scanned on site, then the two datasets were aligned into a single model.
The technical work was in the sockets. A scanner cannot reach the depths of the tusk holes, so we used the tusk geometry itself to define an offset tolerance the pockets were reconstructed in the model so the tusks seat correctly on the printed replica. The dataset exceeded 1 GB before reconstruction.
“Printhoek 3D did the scans for me and the results were exceptional.”
Cape buffalo skull & horns
Delivered: A cleaned, refined digital model of the buffalo skull and horns, supplied to the USA. The photographs show the finished journey from original, through scan data and print, to a painted replica in the client's home.
The client hunted on a management permit and could not take the skull home. He wanted a keepsake that matched his trophy, not a cast made from a generic mould.
We scanned the original skull, cleaned and aligned the data, and reconstructed the model as a single printable piece. Files were handed over for printing closer to home.
“I finally have my trophy!”
Leopard skull, jaw & teeth
Delivered: An in-house printed replica with the original teeth fitted into reconstructed sockets, shipped to Austria with a declaration form and a material safety data sheet.
This project involved the full set: upper skull, lower jaw and every tooth. All parts were scanned at fine resolution, then combined into one reconstructed model.
On this project, the tooth pockets had shifted once the skull dried, so the original teeth no longer fit. We scanned the teeth separately and reshaped the sockets in the reconstructed skull using that data so the finished replica has its teeth back in place, not framed alongside the model.
Kudu skull & horns
Trial status: Print trials completed at 25%, 50% and 100%. Costing under evaluation.
The kudu is being used to test how faithfully the original geometry holds up at reduced sizes. Skull and horns were scanned separately and reconstructed as a single printable model.
Replicas were produced at three scales so a hunter can see what the trophy looks like at full size, at half, and at a quarter - an option for hunters who want the shape of their trophy without the wall space. Scale and finish are set per project.
Oryx skull & horns
Trial status: Print trials completed at 25%, 50% and 100%. Costing under evaluation.
The oryx was scanned the same way as the kudu skull and horns captured separately, then reconstructed as a single printable model.
The challenge here was the horns. Their length and taper are difficult to hold faithfully at reduced scale, so the trials were used to check how the horn shape reads at 25%, 50% and 100%. Scale and finish are set per project.
Working with hunters, outfitters & taxidermists
You know the trophy. We handle the geometry.
Tell us who holds the original and where it is. We define the scanning, reconstruction and delivery scope around that.
Capture
We scan the skull, horns, tusks or mount. Location and handling are arranged with the person holding the trophy before scanning begins.
Reconstruct
The scan data is cleaned, aligned and reconstructed for printing. Where needed, mating features such as tusk sockets are reworked using scans of the original parts.
Deliver files or replicas
We hand over the agreed printable files for manufacture closer to home, or produce the replica ourselves in Namibia. Printing, assembly, finishing and delivery are quoted according to the project.
Scope
What each project can include.
Scanning
Skulls, tusks, horns and full mounts assessed for scanning, either in-house or where the original is held.
Reconstruction
Damaged areas repaired, tusk sockets and tooth pockets reshaped using the original geometry.
Printable files
Cleaned, printable files supplied to you for manufacture closer to home, sized and split for the printer you are using.
Finished replicas
Replicas produced by PH3D in Namibia, including print, assembly and finishing. Quoted per project.
Enquiries
Tell us about your trophy.
To quote the scanning and reconstruction work, we need a few things up front.
- Photos of the skull, horns, tusks or mount from a few angles.
- Where the trophy is now, and who is holding it.
- Approximate dimensions.
- Desired scale for the replica (100%, 50%, 25%, or your own).
- Whether you want printable files, a finished replica, or both.
